Training of electrical engineers: Meeting the requirements of sustainability reporting

On Tuesday, 19 November 2024, the Milan Vidmar Electric Power Research Institute, in cooperation with the Slovenian Chamber of Engineers, held a training session for certified electrical engineers on “Meeting the requirements of sustainability reporting”. The training was organised by GIZ - Electricity Distribution Association and aimed at deepening the understanding of the key sustainability requirements and standards introduced by the CSRD and the EU Taxonomy.

Participants learned about the challenges and opportunities presented by the new requirements and gained practical knowledge on how to identify the impacts of projects on the environment, nature, water and heritage conservation. Lecturers from the Environment Department, Dr Rudi Vončina, Dr Maja Ivanovski, Maša Djurica, Damjan Kovačič, Dr Katarina Ana Lestan and Ana Cerk, shared specific practical examples and presented approaches to prioritising activities according to sustainability objectives.

 The training attracted more than 150 certified electrical engineers, reflecting the tremendous interest in this field and the importance of sustainability reporting in the energy industry. The event showcased good cooperation between professional organisations and engineering practice and an important step towards a sustainable transformation of the electricity sector.
