The Milan Vidmar Electric Power Research Institute at the 17th CIGRE CIRED 2025 Conference of Slovenian electric power sector

22. May, 2025

Between May 19 and 21, 2025, Portorož hosted the 17th CIGRE-CIRED Conference of Slovenian electric power sector, the largest expert meeting of its kind, which brings together experts and companies that shape the Slovenian energy sector every two years.

The Milan Vidmar Electric Power Research Institute presented itself again this year with a large number of professional papers and as one of the event's sponsors. At the exhibition booth, we presented visitors with a wide range of services and research activities carried out by the Institute, which rank us among the leading professional institutions in the field of electrical power engineering.

We were also very proud to look ahead to 2023 at the conference, as our colleagues received prestigious awards for the most notable contributions at the 16th CIGRE-CIRED Conference of Slovenian electric power sector. The awards were presented by the Slovenian national organisation CIGRE, which represents an important professional recognition of their work, namely:

- Petra Krištof and Simon Podkoritnik received the CIGRE ŠK A3 award for their paper "Analysis of different methods for optimising protection against atmospheric discharges in switchgear.”

- Aleksandar Momirovski, Miloš Maksić, and Luka Zidarič received the CIGRE ŠK C2 award for their paper "Technical and business aspects of ensuring resilience in the electric power system."

- Luka Zidarič received the CIGRE ŠK C4 award for his paper "Detailed dynamic models of turbine systems for hydroelectric power plants."

- Andreja Ivartnik Kanduč, Amila Dervišević Kaloper, Igor Podbelšek, Maja Kernjak Jager received the CIGRE ŠK C5 award for their papers "Dynamic tariffs and smart charging infrastructure for electric vehicles."

- Matija Simon and Tim Gradnik received the CIGRE ŠK D1 award for their paper "Reducing SF₆ emissions: alternatives with a reduced carbon footprint in high-voltage switching elements."

These awards are proof of the professional excellence, innovation, and dedication that the employees of the Milan Vidmar Electric Power Research Institute invest in the development of electrical power engineering every day.

We would like to thank everyone who visited us in Portorož and look forward to seeing you again at future professional events.
