Milan Vidmar Electric Power Research Institute at the central ceremony on World Metrology Day
21. May, 2025On Tuesday, 20 May 2025, representatives of the Milan Vidmar Electric Power Research Institute, Nina Miklavčič and Dr. Rudi Vončina, represented the Institute at the central national ceremony on World Metrology Day, which took place at the Grand Hotel Bernardin in Portorož.
This year's event was particularly festive, as we are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Metre Convention – a key international agreement signed in Paris on 20 May 1875, which laid the foundations for today's international system of units (SI). This convention also led to the establishment of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM), which still ensures the harmonization of measurement units and high measurement accuracy around the world.
The ceremony was attended by leading metrology experts from industry, research institutions, universities, and other scientific centres. They exchanged experiences, opened discussions on current challenges in the field of metrology, and strengthened ties within the metrology community. At the event, we also agreed to begin the process of EIMV's membership in SiMER at the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce, which represents an important step towards even closer cooperation within the Slovenian metrology network.
With its presence and active role, the Milan Vidmar Electric Power Research Institute has once again confirmed its commitment to the highest professional standards, international cooperation, and the development and establishment of metrology as a key element of the technological future.
