EIMV receives a special recognition on the 90th anniversary of the Slovenian Chess Federation

9. Dec, 2025

On the occasion of the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the Slovenian Chess Federation, the Milan Vidmar Electric Power Research Institute received special recognition for its contribution and long-standing support of Slovenian chess. The award was ceremoniously accepted by Dr. Uroš Kerin, director of EIMV, and was also attended by the president of the Federation, Mr. Dušan Mes, who expressed his congratulations and praise for the long-standing cooperation and support for chess.

We are proud that EIMV has been connected with the history of chess since its very beginnings. The founder of our Institute, academician Prof. Dr. Milan Vidmar, was not only an exceptional electrical engineer and scientist, but also one of the greatest chess grandmasters of his time. His dual legacy – in the fields of energy and chess – still represents an important part of EIMV's identity today.

At the festive event, which brought together numerous representatives of the Slovenian chess community to mark the anniversary, awards were presented to individuals and organizations that have made a significant contribution to the development of chess in Slovenia. Among this year's recipients is EIMV, which is a special honour for us and confirmation that we are continuing the tradition of our founder.

The Slovenian Chess Federation has an extraordinary history at this important milestone: from 1935, through the rise of numerous top chess players, to today, when chess is still deeply rooted in Slovenian culture. We are delighted to be part of this story.

This recognition means more to us than just a tribute to the past. It is also an incentive and a commitment to continue working with the same dedication and professionalism that characterized the work of Prof. Dr. Vidmar. At EIMV, we believe in the power of knowledge, strategic thinking, and determination, which are values symbolized by chess. Therefore, we will continue to contribute to the development of the Slovenian energy sector with responsibility and vision, and support environments that strengthen intellect, innovation, and community.
