EIMV at the annual meeting of the EURAD-2 project and the ASTRA work package
12. Sep, 2025EIMV actively participated at the annual meeting of the EURAD-2 project, which took place between 9 and 11 September 2025 in Bologna, Italy. The event brought together key stakeholders in the European research programme in the field of radioactive waste management.
EIMV participated in the panel discussion "Future-proofing nuclear waste management (ASTRA and FORSAFF)", which presented the ASTRA work package dealing with alternative strategies for radioactive waste management, including waste from small modular reactors (SMRs) and future fuels. In the discussion, the lead partners from the ASTRA and FORSAFF projects addressed the key challenges of long-term sustainability of waste management strategies, particularly in small inventory countries (SIMS), for new reactors (SMR/AMR), and in view of future safety and social acceptability requirements.
The day after the EURAD-2 event, on 12 September 2025, the annual meeting of the ASTRA work package was also held, for the first time in person. The meeting included a review of the progress of all work packages (Tasks 2–5) and a discussion of the next steps. EIMV presented Task 5: Alternative Waste Management Solutions for SIMS, which it leads together with partners from DMT and NRG PALLAS.
At EIMV, we are proud to contribute to the development of innovative and sustainable solutions for radioactive waste management and to strengthen cooperation between the technical, scientific, and societal aspects of European research programmes.
