Dr Simon Podkoritnik (EIMV) on the significance of laboratory tests in the energy sector

The October issue of Naš stik magazine featured an interview in which Dr Simon Podkoritnik, Head of the High Voltage and Power Plants Department at the Milan Vidmar Electric Power Research Institute (EIMV), shared his opinion among ten other energy experts.

Dr Podkoritnik emphasised that, of all the expectations regarding the development of energy technology 10–15 years ago, the belief that mathematical models and simulations would soon completely replace traditional laboratory testing was quite mistaken. On the contrary, demand for high-voltage testing has grown significantly in recent years, which is why EIMV is expanding the capacity of its laboratories and introducing new technologies.

"Despite advances in simulation, the latter is still not sufficient to confirm all requirements in the energy system. Physical testing and robust laboratory capabilities remain crucial, especially in times of rapid change and the expansion of renewable sources," Dr Podkoritnik emphasised.
