Completion of the RadoNorm project
30. Sep, 2025The aim of the RadoNorm project (2020–2025), which is being carried out at the EIMV and is funded under the Euratom Horizon 2020 programme (radonorm.eu), was to improve protection against radiation, particularly radon (RADO) and naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM). The project involved 57 partners from 22 countries and was led by the German Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS).
EIMV contributed key results to the project: it developed a website for the Radon Behavioural Atlas (atlas), the largest study of its kind in Europe, and published the RadoNorm compendium, which brings together scientific findings, guidelines, and practical recommendations and contains all ten project newsletters (newsletters).
The project also included citizens' science initiatives, with residents participating in radon measurements and remediation measures, demonstrating that active public involvement increases the likelihood of effective action.
The result of the success of the RadoNorm project is the development of solutions that will increase the safety and awareness of residents about the dangers of ionizing radiation.
