The following are the services rendered by the Power System Control and Operation Department for various electric power utilities, economic societies and organisations, state organs, local communities and several other customers:

I. Technical and economic-development studies to assure optimal, reliable and safe operation of the electric power system on the production, transmission and distribution level:

• stationary, dynamic and transient stability analyses,
• security analyses of the electric power system,
• analyses of frequency and voltage failures/breakdowns,
• control of active and reactive power, i. e. frequency and voltage, in individual power plants and the overall electric power system,
• analysis of protection systems and their philosophy,
• analysis of short-circuits in individual parts of the electric power system,
• reliability analysis and analysis of event statistics,
• analysis of consumer electricity supply quality,
• operational analysis,
• technical and market characteristics of hydro and thermal power plants of the Slovenian electric power system,
• analysis of the production capacity and electricity demand meeting within the internal electricity market,
• setting up strategies and taking decisions regarding the primary electricity market.

II. Technical consulting in development and solving of pending issues of operation, control and maintenance of the overall electric power system and its constituting parts concerning:

• operation and maintenance of production, transmission and distribution systems,
• operation and maintenance of secondary systems of the overall electric power system (control, regulation, automation, protection, measurement),
• operation of industrial electric power systems,
• introduction of the electricity market and elaboration of the related legislation.

III: Technical studies, preliminary solutions, feasibility projects and professional consulting in development and construction of:

• electric power system control systems,
• control systems,
• automation of the overall electric power system and its constituent parts,
• protection systems,
• measuring systems.

IV: Professional consulting, supervision and control, professional-technical examinations and release of professional-technical assessments, evaluations and opinions in the area of:

• electric power system control systems,
• control systems,
• automation of the overall electric power system and its constituent parts,
• protection systems.

V: Technical studies, preliminary solutions, feasibility projects, professional consulting and participation in development, construction and maintenance of:

• information systems,
• data bases and
• application software for the needs of electric power utilities and other participants in the electricity market.

VI: Acquisition and presentation of data about atmospheric discharges and their analysis for the interested users:

• development, implementation, maintenance and continuous upgrading of the system for acquisition and presentation of atmospheric discharge data (SCALAR),
• acquisition, archiving and presentation of atmospheric discharge data,
• on-line correlation of failures of middle-voltage overhead power lines caused by lightning strokes, statistical analysis of atmospheric discharge data and other expert analyses in the area of atmospheric discharges.
