Some words about Leonu
Leon Valeni was born in Koper in 1960. In 1985 he graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana. The subject of his diploma work was Modelling Power Flow Calculations for Transmission Networks. In 1990 he received his M. Sc. degree from the same faculty. The thesis he defended was concerned with the field of Transmission Network Reliability Analysis.
His first employment was with the Elektro Primorska (1985 - 1987). He then joined the Milan Vidmar Electric Power Research Institute of Ljubljana where he worked as a researcher in the area of long-term planning of electric power systems. From 1999 till 2001 he was in charge of the Electric Power Plants and Facilities Environmental Effects Department and from then on he has been heading the Energy and Power System Planning Department.
In 1989 he visited for two months the ENEL's Institute in Milan for specialisation purposes in the area of electric power system reliability analysis. In 1994 he attended a two-month lasting training course in electric power system expansion planning at the Argonne Laboratories, Chicago.
Fields of his professional interest are:
Electric power system development planning;
Implementation of methods and criteria for electric power system planning;
Electric power system operational reliability;
Design of computer tools to support electric power system planning;
