FIELDS OF RESEARCH
General Energy
  • demand-meeting forecast: expected growth of energy-carriers' demand meeting in the period of the next 20 to 30 years,
  • energy balances: collective tables and long-term forecasting of the scope and structure of the final, secondary and primary energy,
  • geographically dispersed forecasting of electric power demand meeting over distribution units;
Electricity Generation
  • supply reliability in the long-term development of electric power engineering: a set of computer simulations enabling an insight into the selection of investments to allow for reinforcement of the existing generation system so as to avoid electricity shortages,
  • possible hydro-power plant generation: estimation of the quantity of electricity to be generated by a particular hydro power plant made on the basis of power flows of several past years, the plant characteristics as well as the needs of the overall power system,
  • seasonal hydro-power plant generation: optimisation procedure - encompassing also the existing thermal power plants - to allocate seasonal hydro-power plant generation over individual months of a year,
  • pumping hydro-power plant generation: optimisation procedure determining the pumping and generation cycle of the plant with regard to water-flows and differences in the marginal electricity price foreseen for the day and night time,
  • thermal-power plant balancing: calculation of the extent to which and the mode with which the plants meet the daily power diagrams or power demand with regard to their particular characteristics as well as the achieved hydro-power plant generation,
  • optimal power-generation development: long-term issues regarding introduction of new hydro- and thermal-power plants to meet the increasing power demand,
  • calculation of long-term marginal generation costs;
Electricity Market
  • electricity market operations,
  • system analyses in the area of energy markets liberalisation,
  • operative consulting services for market participants;
Electricity Transmission and Distribution
  • research in basic electric power network planning principles for various voltage levels,
  • analyses and optimisation of electric power network parameters,
  • optimal switchyard and transformer station parameter planning,
  • drawing development plans for electric power networks of various voltage levels, from the lowest to the highest, with regard to generation systems,
  • analyses of interconnection effects on the system operation,
  • network technical-economic models,
  • calculations of the high-voltage network critical cuts,
  • calculations of weak-point locations in the high-voltage network,
  • load-flow analyses, calculations of reactive and active power flows in connection with the needed network reinforcement,
  • calculations of urban cable networks,
  • calculations of supply reliability,
  • optimal reactive-power allocation in the power system,
  • electricity distribution, forecast calculations for power-demand meeting over various distribution areas, development program proposals,
  • new transformer stations, transformer station up-rating, new power transmission overhead lines, distribution network reinforcement,
  • calculation and usage of models for adoption of tariffs for network utilisation,
  • distribution marginal costs,
  • transmission marginal costs,
  • GREDOS program, home page http://gredos.eimv.si/;
Energy Economy
  • cost and financial analyses of energy utilities' operations (own price, marginal costs, network utilisation prices)
  • comparative analyses for energy utilities' operations (benchmarking analyses according to various methods: COLS, SFA, DEA).
