The responsibility of the Energy and Power System Planning (EPSP) Department is long-term planning of power systems. Its research work is done for the following five fields:
- general energy and demand-meeting forecast, strategic development documents for the energy economy,
- electricity generation planning,
- distributed electricity generation,
- electricity quality,
- electric power system element modelling,
- FACTS equipment,
- over-voltages in distribution and transmission systems,
- analyses of stationary, dynamic and transient phenomena,
- short circuits,
- industrial network analysis and planning,
- reactive power compensation,
- filtering equipment design,
- loss minimisation in the distribution network,
- possibilities for introducing new power sources into the electric power system,
- general planning of distribution networks,
- financial, cost and comparative analyses of energy utilities' business operations.
