Bogo Pirs was born in Ljubljana in 1946. Upon his graduation in 1973 from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana he got employed in 1974 with the Milan Vidmar Electric Power Research Institute. From 1975 till 1982 he participated in the construction of the Slovenian first nuclear power plant, i. e. the Krsko plant, in the area of quality assurance during all the phases of the plant construction, assembly, trial-operation testing and full-scale operation. His experiences, knowledge and skills were acquired through working visits to various competent institutions in the U.S.A. and a series of workshops organised by the International Atomic Agency of Vienna. During the beginning period of the plant commissioning, he was for three years assigned the post of the Manager of the plant's Quality Assurance whereupon he returned to the Institute where he is currently heading the Power Plant Department.
Bogo Pirs is a member of the Krsko Nuclear Power Plant Safety Committee, FORATOM (Forum Atomique Européen) Working Group for Quality Assurance and American Corrosion Association (NACE). Apart from that he is also a member of the professional group for the Krsko Nuclear Power Plant accident analysis of the Republic of Slovenia Administration for Nuclear Safety and the working group for the area of quality and metrix standardisation regulatories of the Slovenian national Bureau for Standardisation and Metrix (WG3.TC176) |
