ENVIRONMENTAL DEPARTMENT - EVN SERVICES OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL DEPARTMENT

The Environmental Department performs professional services for most of its activities. The important and frequent measurements are the ones made with the state-of-the-art devices and instruments and in compliance with the national and EU legislation and well established technical guidelines, directives and standards. The Department has been authorised for performing the so called »First Measurements « (positively passed first measurements are a condition required to be met by the national administrative bodies when applying for the operational licence for individual plants and facilities) and measurements needed for monitoring air emissions, quality of the external air, atmospheric precipitations and sediments, for on-line data processing of permanent automatic measurements performed by the National System of Operational Monitoring, and for providing reports and web presentations of results for various users. Besides consultancy services, the Department gives also professional opinions and is particularly active in the area of consultancy, qualification and training of the personnel whose work is associated with environmental protection and occupational safety.

Some of the most important measurements performed by the Environmental Department are:

Stationary-sources air-emission measurements:

sulphur oxides expressed as SO2, nitrogen oxides expressed as NO2, carbon monoxide, oxygen, overall dust, PM10 and PM2,5, chloride and its inorganic compounds, and fluorine and its inorganic compounds;

Air-quality measurements:

sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrate oxides (NO2/NOx), ozone (O3), benzene, toluene, p-xylene (BTX), dust particles PM10 and sampling over the fractions of 0.49 - 0.95 - 1.5 - 3.0 - 7.2 - 10 micro m;

Meteorological-parameter measurements:

speed and direction of wind, air temperature, relative air humidity, and UV solar radiation;

Measurements of quality of atmospheric precipitations and sediments with regard to the following parameters:

pH, sulphates, nitrates, chlorides, ammonium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, sediment quantity, and heavy metal concentrations (Pb, Cd, Zn, As, Tl, Cr, Fe, Mn, Co, Cu, Ni).
